RICHMOND (WRIC) - Shamrock The Block, the outdoor St. Patrick's Day festival held in Shockoe Bottom is moving to North Boulevard.
Promoters of the event say after months of meeting with city officials, Richmond Police and others, that the event has outgrown the space. The event drew criticism after last year's brawl between festival goers and police.
"Out of respect for the businesses, our neighbors in Shockoe Bottom and the safety of those attending, the decision was made to move to a larger, more accessible area of North Boulevard," says Micki Long, Director of Production for Three One One Productions in a statement.
According to promoters, the new location will offer more space, better parking and the ability to keep the street festival in the street.
Shamrock the Block is scheduled to be held Saturday, March 15.
