HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—Though the region is expected to see mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 60 degrees on Tuesday, an early-morning wintry mix caused multiple accidents in Henrico and Hanover counties.
The right and center lanes of I-95 South were closed at mile marker 82 near the Parham Road exit due to a crash.
All lanes of I-64 East were closed at mile marker 185 near the Route 33/Staples Mill Road exit. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, traffic was backed up 1 mile due to this crash.
ABC 8 News Reporter Sydney Cameron observed four accidents involving six cars while out in the field on Tuesday morning—all before 7:15 a.m.
In the accident on I-64 East, one car spun out on the slushy roads before getting hit by two other vehicles; one person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
In another incident on I-64, a woman driving a Mercedes Benz was stuck in traffic due to an accident caused by the slushy roads when she spun out herself and her car flipped over. Police had to remove her from her vehicle through the sunroof.
Cameron also saw a crash on I-95 North involving a toddler. The young girl was crying, but appeared to be uninjured; one man suffered injuries to his face.
In Hanover County, the left shoulder, left lane and center lane of I-295 North were closed due to an accident; traffic is backed up approximately 2 miles.
Police say many of Tuesday morning's crashes were caused by speeding.
