ETTRICK, Va. (WRIC)—A man has been arrested for carrying a gun on the Virginia State University campus on Wednesday morning.
Around 11 a.m. on Feb. 19, VSU Police received a report of an individual walking through the campus with a gun visible. Officers responded immediately and apprehended two male non-students matching the suspect's description at approximately 11:10 a.m.
One of the individuals was carrying a weapon, and will be charged in Chesterfield County with carrying a weapon on university property and carrying a concealed weapon. Police are not releasing his identity at this time.
Because there was such a brief period between the time police received the call and the two individuals were apprehended, the school was not placed on lockdown and no emergency notification was issued.
Tom Reed, the university's director of public relations and marketing, said in an email, "VSU Police commends its students for their vigilance and taking immediate action in alerting the police to the incident."
