Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds Could Hit Friday

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND (WRIC)—The ABC 8 News StormTracker weather team is monitoring a system that could bring thunderstorms and gusty winds to the region on Friday.

Clouds will mix with the sunshine on Thursday and it will be cooler than it was on Wednesday, but still mild for this time of the year, with highs in the lower to middle 60s. Clouds will begin to increase Thursday night, ahead of a system that is moving in from the Midwest. This system will bring us strong southerly winds Thursday night and early Friday, allowing our temperatures to climb into the upper 60s on Friday, but rain and thunderstorms will develop by noon across Central Virginia. There is a chance that some of the thunderstorms could have heavy downpours and possibly some gusty winds.

Our skies will clear out later Friday night and lows will drop back into the middle 30s. Saturday and Sunday will feature mostly sunny skies, with highs in the lower 60s on Saturday and upper 50s on Sunday.

Partly sunny skies will be with us on Monday along with normal temperatures, with highs in the lower 50s. Tuesday and Wednesday are two days to watch, as some of our long-range models indicate a weather system moving in with the chance of either a cold rain or a rain/snow mix, with highs around 40 degrees.
