HANOVER (WRIC) -Washington-Henry Elementary School was briefly on lockdown after reports of a man with a machete was near campus Thursday around 2:30 p.m. while the school was in the process of dismissing students.
As a result, students were locked down on buses as a precaution.
Deputies said a surveyor, who is described as a white male in his 60s, was using the machete as part of his work on a road near the school.
The man was never on school property and officials say no students were in any danger. The lockdown lasted about 10 minutes.
