HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—A Mechanicsville man has been charged in connection with a tractor-trailer accident that shut down lanes on I-295 North on Monday morning.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 24, Virginia State Police responded to a crash on I-295 North at mile marker 41, approximately 1 mile north of Pole Green Road. A 2012 International tractor-trailer, loaded with lumber, had rear-ended a 2013 Toyota Highlander. Both vehicles ran off the right side of the roadway, and the tractor-trailer overturned onto the passenger side.
All persons involved were wearing their seatbelts and no injuries have been reported.
Virginia State Police have charged the tractor-trailer driver, 31-year-old James A. Vega, of Mechanicsville, with following too close.
The two right lanes of I-295 North remain closed for cleanup. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, traffic is backed up approximately 2 miles as of 10 a.m. Monday. Drivers should expect delays and plan an alternate route.
