PETERSBURG (WRIC) – Petersburg schools are investigating claims that students watched porn in class while a staff member stood by. And it was apparently all caught on tape.
That alleged incident happened at Petersburg High School.
A video posted on Facebook showed several students watching a pornographic movie inside a classroom as an adult staff member stands nearby.
The video has since been removed, but Petersburg school officials confirm they are aware of the incident.
Officials say they began an immediate investigation as soon as they learned of the situation. The staff member involved has been removed pending the outcome.
"Any PCPS student or employee who does not adhere to policy/code will be subjected to disciplinary action," wrote Petersburg City Public Schools Public Information Officer Nicole Bell in a statement. "Violation of division-wide policies is not acceptable and will not be tolerated."
Students 8News spoke with who were not involved say the kids had a bag of DVDs and that's what they were watching the pornographic material from. They're upset to hear what happened.
"First they already have a bad rep of us having lots of fights and everything," says student Malik Tyler. "They are saying we are so ghetto, and now, the school is just going wild. They can do anything they want to now."
Because this is still being investigated, there's no word on if the students will be disciplined.
