CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—A Midlothian mother is facing charges after she was found driving intoxicated and in possession of marijuana while her baby son was in the car.

On the evening of Feb. 21, Chesterfield Police responded to the scene of a rear-end crash on the 10900 block of Hull Street Road. Officers found that the driver of one of the vehicles was driving while intoxicated and in possession of what appeared to be marijuana. The woman's 6-month-old baby boy was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and not properly secured in his car seat.

Wendy M. Schmidt, 42, of Buck Rub Drive in Midlothian, now faces four charges in connection with Friday's incident. She has been charged with Abuse and Neglect of Children, Cruelty and Injury to Children, Driving motor vehicle while Intoxicated/DWI, and Possession of Marijuana.
