RICHMOND (WRIC) - Die-hard VCU fans are enduring the cold Friday night to support their basketball team. The Rams play No. 10 St. Louis Saturday night at the Siegel Center.
"This is Shakaville. It's for the VCU-St. Louis game tomorrow," says junior Brandon Alness.
The basketball game against St. Louis is huge for the Rams, and these students are camping out to make sure they get the best seats in the house.
"I love VCU," Alness says. "I love to come out and show my support for the team. And it's always rewarding when you see the players out here and they think it's cool to see everybody waiting for the game."
Alness and his friends have been camping out since Thursday night.
"Right here's our bed with our VCU quilt and there's our VCU chair. We've got our PS3, our TV...we're pretty well prepared," says Alness as he shows the inside of their tent decked out in VCU gear.
Especially prepared for the freezing temperatures they'll face overnight.
"I've got four layers on right now and we have a heated blanket in the tent," said Alness.
But these fans say the cold won't stop them from supporting their team.
"It's definitely worth it, I definitely brought a lot of layers," said Kirstin Tegler, a sophomore.
"Not a lot of people come, but those who do come you know are really big fans, and you make good friends with them," said sophomore Bethany Parker.
Ultimately, they hope Saturday's final score will be worth the wait.
"We just came out of a really good road win, so I'm excited," said Tegler.
"I think we're going to pull it out," said Alness.
The game starts at 6 p.m. Saturday.
