SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY (WRIC) - Spotsylvania County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the 11900 block of Belafonte Road, at approximately 10:00am Saturday morning. Prior to Deputies arriving, the E-911 center communications officer related that the victim had reported being assaulted by the suspect, an ex-boyfriend, later identified as Ross Carter, 42 of Spotsylvania.
The communications officer also relayed information to Deputies that Carter was heard forcing the victim into a vehicle and leaving the area. Deputies arrived at the location, to find that the suspect, (Carter) and the victim were gone. Deputies determined the suspect vehicle description as a dark gray Dodge Challenger with Maryland tags. Deputies began searching the area, while Spotsylvania County communications officers sent out a "BOLO", (Be On Lookout) to all surrounding jurisdictions in reference to the welfare of the female victim and her possible injuries.
At approximately noon Saturday, Virginia State Police Troopers observed the vehicle matching the description in the area of Lewiston Road. VSP attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, being driven by Carter, with the victim in the passenger side. Carter failed to stop and attempted to evade the Troopers. VSP initiated a brief pursuit in the area of Minor Lane. Carter then bailed out on foot and ran into the nearby wood line. VSP Troopers lost sight of the suspect as he entered the wood line and began to assist Spotsylvania Deputies, who were responding to the foot pursuit, in setting up a perimeter. VSP also rescued the victim from the suspect vehicle and called for an ambulance to treat her for injuries sustained from Carter.
