Louisa County, Va. (WRIC)-After an apparent attempt to warm his home with a wood stove ahead of bitter temperatures Sunday night, a man lost his life when the house went up in flames.
Crews were dispatched to the scene shortly before 5:00 p.m. on March 2. A woman who had been inside the house met firefighters outside the house, suffering with severe burns. She told firefighters a man was inside the home. He never made it back out.
The woman was rushed to the University of Virginia Medical Center. While her burns are serious, she is expected to survive.
Officials believe the deceased victim was testing out a wood stove in preparation for the winter weather moving into central Virginia Sunday evening. His name has not been released, pending an investigation.
