MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (WRIC)—Cold Harbor Elementary School was placed on lockdown Friday morning after a threatening note was found on a school bus.
Around 7 a.m. on Friday, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school on Cold Harbor Road for a report of a suspicious note found on a bus. Police say the note contained a “general threat” to all Hanover County Public Schools for March 7.
Cold Harbor Elementary was been placed on lockdown as a precaution, prior to the start of the school day.
The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office sent out a press release around 8:45 a.m. Friday that said in part, “Currently, deputies and investigators remain on the scene to further their investigation into this incident. In addition, explosive detecting K-9s will be utilized as deemed appropriate out of an abundance of caution. The Sheriff's Office will remain at each Hanover County Public School's campus throughout the remainder of the day in order to reassure students, faculty, and parents.”
Shortly after 9 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office sent out a statement saying the lockdown had been lifted and that classes had resumed.
“No parents were allowed inside of the school until a thorough security sweep could be completed by Sheriff’s Office personnel,” the statement said. “Upon completion, it was determined that no apparent threat existed, and students, parents and faculty were allowed inside of the school.”
