Fiery Car Crash Kills Two In Charles City

Virginia State Police Trooper M. D. Jester is continuing his investigation of a single vehicle fatal crash on Route 5, John Tyler Memorial Highway, west of Route 623, Wilcox Neck Road in Charles City County. 

At approximately 3:15 a.m., Mar 9., state police responded to the scene after the driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound and ran off the right side of the roadway.  The driver overcorrected and ran off the left side of the roadway striking a tree. The impact with the tree caused the vehicle to catch fire. 

Both the adult male driver and adult male passenger died at the scene.  They were both transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for positive identification and to determine the cause and manner of death. 

Identity of the deceased is pending positive identification by the medical examiner's office and next of kin notification. 

Route 5 was closed for five and one-half hours to allow for the on-going crash investigation.
