GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—After missing 16 days of class due to inclement winter weather, Goochland County Public Schools students will be in class an extra week this spring.
According to District 2 School Board Member W. Kevin Hazzard, the last day of school will now be Friday, June 6. The School Board agreed on the revised calendar during a meeting on Tuesday.
The GCPS school year was originally slated to end on May 30.
All students will have to go to school an extra week, but elementary school students will have a longer school day for the rest of the year.
Despite having their school year extended by a week, GCPS students will still start their summer break earlier than other area school districts, because their first day of school was on Aug. 19, 2013. Districts like Chesterfield County Public Schools, Henrico County Public Schools and Richmond Public Schools, which started classes after Labor Day on Sept. 3, are all set to end the academic year on Friday, June 13.
