RICHMOND (WRIC)—Just days before “Dancing with the Stars” returns to ABC for its 18th season, a group of Richmond personalities is also dancing for a good cause.

On Friday, 10 local volunteers—including ABC 8News’ very own Juan Conde—are cutting a rug to benefit the Virginia Treatment Center for Children at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU during the Fourth Annual Dancing with the Richmond Stars.

On the real “Dancing with the Stars,” celebrities dance for cash. In the Richmond version, they dance for charity.

The ten local personalities have each been paired with a pro from Rigby’s Jig Dance Studio in Henrico County

“We are charged with putting together the instructors to dance with all the stars for the event, provide rehearsal space, and help them put together their routines for this wonderful evening,” said Eleanor Robertson, the owner of Rigby’s Jig.

Robertson and her pros donate their time. This year, proceeds will again go to programs at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

“The cause of the Virginia Treatment Center for Children is something we feel strongly about and are very happy to be working for,” said Charlotte Roberts, who is co-chairing the event. “We have raised close to $300,000 in the first three years, and we expect to do very well this year.”

Conde and his dancing partner, Sarah Warnick, have been rehearsing for Friday’s performance to “Mi Confesion” since January.

“I think most people don’t realize how much memorization goes into it,” Warnick said.

“People see ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ they watch TV and say, ‘Oh, that doesn’t look too hard,’” Robertson said. “And then they try it and they realize, ‘You know what? This is hard; this is difficult and this is why not everybody knows how to tango.’”

Dancing with the Richmond Stars begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14 at the VCU W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, located at 922 Park Ave., Richmond, VA 23284. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the performance and gala celebration are $100 each. Click here to purchase tickets or make a donation. Click here to view the full list of Richmond stars.

Don’t miss the season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 17, only on ABC 8News.
