SEATTLE, Wa. (WRIC) - Two people perished when a news helicopter belonging to ABC affiliate KOMO-TV crashed outside its station Tuesday morning. The helicopter collided with several cars, sending plumes of black smoke high into the air.

In addition to the two fatalities, the Seatlle Fire Department reported that a 37-year-old man was injured in the fiery crash. He escaped from a car at the scene of the accident and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

There have been no other reports of injury, although KOMOnews.com says that "One man could be seen running from from one of the cars with his sleeve on fire, and he was extinguished by officers at the scene."

The station says that the copter was taking flight from its rooftop when it possibly hit the side of the building, causing it to go down. In its decent, it crashed into several vehicles on Broad Street, which then exploded into flames.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and extinguished the blaze in about a half hour. Traffic was diverted from the area during the incident.

The identities of the deceased have not been released. We'll continue monitoring this story closely...stay with ABC 8News for updates.
