RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC)—The deadline to sign-up for healthcare through the Affordable Care Act is fast approaching.
An event is being held this weekend to help people enroll in the program. The forum will be held at New Direction Evangelistic Church located at 9101 Hull Street Road in Richmond from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday.
BlueHeeleer Health Plan Advisor Sandra Antoine and other experts will be on hand to answer questions and help with on-site enrollment.
"If you're not sure about what the Affordable Care Act is we'll educate you on that so that you can make an informed decision," said Angela Curtis, Associate Minister at New Direction Evangelistic Church. "At the same time if you actually want to enroll, if you do not have health insurance, you can do that here so we're one stop-shop right now. We're doing a full court press to make sure that we meet and beat that deadline."
New Direction Evangelistic Church and the Chesterfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. sponsored the event.
Arlissa Washington is the co-chair of the social actions committee with the Chesterfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. "One of our national initiatives is to support our president in the Affordable Care Act, the expansion, the education, the enrollment... we want to reach as many people as we can and have them enrolled by the thirty-first deadline," Washington said.
More than 44,000 Virginians have signed up for health plans through Obamacare since enrollment opened in October. Most enrolled in December, after the Obama Administration was able to fix glitches on the healthcare.gov website. Nationally, more than two-million people have signed-up for insurance plans through federal and state marketplaces.
March 31 is the deadline to enroll in coverage to avoid a fine.
