RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - A domestic assault in Richmond Saturday night ended with a SWAT team barging into a home.

Richmond Police said at 7:15 p.m. they responded to the call in the 400 block of West Charity Street in the Gilpin Housing Community.

When they arrived officers said they found a woman suffering from a stab wound. She was transported to MCV Medical Center with none-life-threatening injuries.

Police made several failed attempts to speak with a male suspect who was inside a home. Officers set up a perimeter and eventually a SWAT team, armed with guns and shields barged into the house.

They found the suspect with self-inflicted wounds. He was also transported to MCV Medical Center and is expected to be okay.

Details on what led to the original altercation have not been released.
