"Annie Oakley" is a Pit Bull mix found shot in Meherrin.
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Prince Edward Animal Control is looking for leads about a dog that was shot last week. On Tuesday, March 25, the post office in Meherrin reported a dog with a bullet wound, lying in a ditch along the highway. A postal carrier transported the dog to Southside SPCA for help. The young, female Pit Bull mix now named Annie Oakley has significant bullet damage throughout her leg.
"We got to this poor girl just in time. Once she is strong enough to undergo surgery, her leg will be amputated and her skin infection will be cleared," says Southside SPCA Director Sandy Wyatt. "We can then offer her a second chance at a better life."
It's expected that Annie Oakley will need extensive care over the next few weeks, and the shelter appreciates any help. To make a monetary donation, follow this link.
