A Richmond City Jail inmate who is incarcerated on drug possession charges was arrested for bringing illegal substances into the prison on Monday.
Randolph George Cokes Jr. was initially arrested by Richmond Police and charged with possession of marijuana. He was committed to Richmond City Jail. On March 31, deputies performed a routine search on the 48-year-old inmate and discovered what appeared to be additional drugs concealed in the lining of his clothing.
Field tests confirmed that Cokes had cocaine and heroin in his possession inside the prison. He was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drugs by a prisoner.
“Mr. Cokes has been in and out of Richmond City Jail for years on drug-related charges,” said Richmond City Sheriff C.T. Woody Jr. “It is my hope that maybe this time he will seek out some help from a counselor, or volunteer to participate in one of our recovery programs.”
