PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -

Petersburg and Vernon Johns Jr. High Schools will close early on Tuesday, April 8, due to the water main break that interrupted the City of Petersburg’s water supply on Monday.

Vernon Johns Jr. High will release students at 1:45 p.m., while Petersburg High students will be dismissed at 2 p.m. Both schools are experiencing low water pressure due to the ruptured water line near the intersection of South Crater Road and Morton Avenue. All after-school activities at both schools have been canceled for Tuesday.

Walnut Hill Elementary School was closed all day Tuesday due to the water main break.

Petersburg residents are still being asked to conserve water and to continue boiling water before drinking it for 24 hours after water returns to their homes. Residents and businesses with questions about water usage should call 804-733-2349.
