RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Virginia State Police continue to investigate a crash involving one of its officers in Richmond.

A patrol car smashed into a minivan Monday night on Commerce Road and Everett Street while pursuing another van for expired tags and illegally tinted windows.

An adult and three young children were inside the van. They were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Neighbors are still shaken up from the crash.

"It really scared me," says Kylea Brimmer. "I pray for the families that everyone is okay."

Police say the trooper was Michael William Deus, who was part of the state police basic graduating class of December 2013.   He suffered a head injury but is expected to be okay.

Police are still investing the circumstances of its pursuit and looking into whether policy was followed.

It's unclear if the trooper ran a stop sign during the pursuit but the damage was significant.

"The police car looks pretty much totaled," says witness Timothy Boone. "I can't imagine being inside the police car."

The driver of the minivan has been identified as a 31-year-old female. She and her three children are expected to be okay.
