RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -

The Richmond Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found shot dead inside a vehicle in the city’s north side late Tuesday night.

Around 11:53 p.m. on April 8, officers responded to the 3500 block of Patrick Avenue, south of East Laburnum Avenue and east of Meadowbridge Road, for a report of shots fired. They arrived to find 31-year-old D'Shaun A. Bethea, of the 3500 block of Patrick Avenue, who had been shot inside a car; he died at the scene.

Richmond Police detectives believe Bethea was shot inside the vehicle that then traveled several blocks before striking a parked car and coming to a stop. RPD is canvassing the area for information and collecting evidence. Police say Bethea's murder was not a random act.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers by calling 804-780-1000 or texting “iTip” followed by the tip to 274637.
