SUFFOLK, Va. (WRIC) -

A 10-year-old student at Booker T. Washington Elementary School was suspended last week over a pencil sharpener.

According to Suffolk authorities, the girl took apart a hand-held pencil sharpener and used the blade to threaten another student. Though no one was injured, the incident has left some parents wondering if personal pencil sharpeners should be allowed in class.

“Especially in elementary school you don’t think that kids are that creative,” said parent Christie Worthington. “But, I guess it’s a concern that we have to worry about now.”

School officials contacted the girl’s parents and alerted police about the incident. At this time, it is unknown if the child will face any charges.
