Missing Elderly Spotsylvania Man Found Safe

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - UPDATE: Missing 81-year-old Jess Gratehouse has been located in Greensboro, NC in good condition.  He has been taken to a local hospital to be checked out and family has been notified.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating an elderly man who has been missing from the area since Monday morning.

Jess Edward Gratehouse, 81, was last seen by his family at 11 a.m. on April 14. Family members say his credit card was last used at 6 p.m. that day in the New Market area of Shenandoah County. According to Captain Jeffery Pearce of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Gratehouse has been spotted in the Charlottesville, Spotsylvania and Lynchburg areas within the last 12 hours.

Gratehouse recently moved to Spotsylvania County from Waller County, Texas. He suffers from dementia and may be confused about where he is.

Gratehouse is 5 feet tall and weighs approximately 110 pounds. He has gray hair, green eyes, a gray beard and a mosquito tattoo on his shoulder. He was last seen wearing white tennis shoes, blue jeans and an orange t-shirt. His vehicle is a red 2006 Nissan pickup truck, with Texas plates CNL7005.
