1 Dead Following 3 Sunday Shootings in Petersburg

Posted: Updated:
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) - Just hours after the Petersburg community buried the four people found dead in a house fire last week, another life was taken on Sunday.

"We weren't even finished healing from the first tragedy. And then here's another one,” said Chanaeo Wran. "We were just all out here laughing, joking, having a good time when out of nowhere someone just walked up and shot him."

Around 1 a..m. on April 27, Akeim "Ark" Easter, a 25-year-old father of three, was killed.

Friends say Easter was sitting on the front porch of a home on the 600 block of Harding Street when he was shot.

"He wasn't moving; he didn't budge, he didn't do nothing,” Wran said.

Easter later died at the hospital.

Police say while officers were there, another shooting victim came to the hospital. Just 45 minutes after that, a third shooting occurred.

“We had a call for another gunshot victim on St. Luke Street. Right now, police are investigating the relationship between all three of those,” said Esther Hyatt, the spokesperson for the Petersburg Bureau of Police.

Meanwhile the neighborhood continues to mourn.

"He was very outgoing, a very nice person, very sweet. He was not the kind of person to start nothing ... Ark was Ark, and Ark would do anything for anybody," said Kelley Stewart.

“Just down the street. All of the community just came together. And then somebody comes and takes somebody else's life like that,” said Wran.

All incidents are under investigation.
