CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - On Tuesday afternoon, friends and family of 18-year-old Tyler Patnaude will remember the teen at a memorial service in Midlothian.

The service will take place at 3 p.m. at Clover Hill Assembly of God at 12310 Bailey Bridge Rd, Midlothian, Va. 23112.

Friends of the Chesterfield teen who died in a car crash Friday night returned to school Monday without their friend.

Tyler was planning to attend New Mexico Military Institute after graduation, but on Friday night, the car he was riding in ran off the road on Woodlake Village Parkway and into a tree. He later died at the hospital. Those closest to Patnaude say he loved to sail, play tennis and spend time with his friends.

Friends say it was a difficult day for everyone at the school.

"It was upsetting," says William Cloutier. "A lot of people were crying, teachers students, and it was a little rough."

Just a few days after a tragic accident took the life of Tyler Patnaude, students and teachers were back at Cosby High School, coping with the loss.

"My teacher almost broke down crying while she was explaining what we were about to do today," says Jonathan Colarossi. "It was really quiet even at lunches. So it was really just ominous and somber."

Students wore red as they went to school Monday as a tribute to Patnaude and his love of sailing.

"We walked out of school we just saw like a pool of red," Colarossi says.

His friends say seeing all the red has helped them deal with the loss.

"So many people were affected by him, and it's awesome that a lot of people cared about him," Cloutier says.

Chesterfield Police are still investigating the crash. The cause is still unknown but the tragic accident is highlighting the importance of how careful teens have to be when driving.
