Rodney Lewis, 50, of the 2800 block of Montecrest Avenue was killed shortly after 1 a.m. on April 29. Officers were called to his residence for a report of a shooting; they arrived within minutes and found him dead in front of the home.
A second adult male was also injured at the scene. Police say he initially appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound, but further investigation revealed he was not injured by gunfire. He was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Richmond Police Detectives believe robbery may have been the motive for this deadly shooting. They are searching for four male suspects wearing all dark clothing. One of the suspects is a black male with a stout build; he is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds.
April has been a violent month in southside Richmond; there have been multiple shootings in the area in the last three weeks, four of which have been fatal. So far this year, there have been 14 homicides in the City of Richmond, compared to 6 at this time last year.
