Behind the Scenes of "Wicked"

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - The musical "Wicked" is in Richmond through Sunday night and ABC 8News anchor Amy Lacey got a rare opportunity to go center stage.

40 minutes to show time, the crowd rushes into the Altria Theater.

The area had been under tornado watches and warnings and somehow, quite appropriately, that threat of a twister brought people to the world of Oz.
English actress Gina Beck, is bringing Glinda the Good Witch life to rave reviews.

"It's one of those roles I've always wanted to play."

She's played Glinda in the U.S. and in London and she gave Amy some pointers for the opportunity of a lifetime - going for a ride in her bubble, one of the biggest show stoppers.

"Keep grounded. Bend your knees as it goes up. It's a tiny bit wobbly but don't worry it's not going to fall down. You'll be fine."
Amy goes up to the top of the theater with her wand and news microphone in hand. Then the descent -- with real bubbles blowing...and Glinda's signature line.

"It's good to see me, isn't it?"

It's a smooth float down to the stage.

No wonder why Beck loves being in the spotlight as Glinda.

"I get to play so many different facets of the character," she says. "She's perky. She's upbeat then she has moments of real sadness and tragedy and the costumes of course are amazing and the sets are fantastic. The whole world of wicked is magical and it appeals to people across all different ages."

"Wicked" is in town through May 4.
