NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Attorneys have begun their opening arguments in the Alexis Murphy murder trial. On Friday, several members of Alexis Murphy's family were called as witnesses in the trial. The Commonwealth's Attorney said that Murphy's blood was found on a shirt inside Randy Taylor's camper.

After a very lengthy jury selection process, 12 jurors and two alternates were seated in the Alexis Murphy murder trial. It took nearly nine hours to get to the point where a full jury was seated in the murder trial against Randy Taylor.

In the end, the seven females and five males will decide the fate of  the 48-year-old Randy Taylor, the two alternatives are made up of one male and one female.

"I think it's a good group of people," says Alexis' aunt, Trina Murphy. "Definitely all walks of life are represented on the jury so I am happy."

An FBI agent testified that she found a fingernail and a stud from either an earring or nose ring and a long, dark hair inside Taylor's camper, near his bed. During opening arguments, it was revealed that one of Taylor's shirts was found in the camper with Murphy's blood on it, as well as clumps of her hair and eyelashes all balled up.

The problem is, the FBI agent who searched the camper first testified she flipped over the couch and looked under it and no bloody shirt was there. It wasn't until days later that another search team found the bloody shirt under the couch. Many other witnesses who testified Friday were family members of Alexis Murphy, who all talked about the day she left.

Trina Murphy addressed the media on Friday, saying, "It's difficult. It's hard thinking about what her last moments were. Like, it's very hard."

At the start of the trial, Randy Taylor walked into the courtroom and took his seat directly in front of the media section and was able to wear his street clothes compared to his normal prison jumpsuit. Taylor pleaded not guilty to the two murder charges, as well as the abduction charge.

Just moments before Taylor was taken into custody, he told investigators, "You might as well take me in, because I'm tired."

Taylor Indicted for Murder of Alexis Murphy

Murphy was last seen leaving a Liberty gas station on Aug. 3, 2013.

Randy Taylor has been arrested and charged with Murphy's murder in January. He is the only one who has been arrested in this case and investigators returned to his home April 14, 2014 looking for more clues.

No body has ever been found, but in January, the Nelson County Commonwealths Attorney announced Alexis Murphy was presumed dead.
