The ABC 8News viewing area is warming up and could see summer-like, record high temperatures on Thursday and Friday.
Sunny skies will be over the region on Thursday and it will be very warm and a little humid, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. The record high for May 8 is 92 degrees, set in 1936, and the record high for May 9 is 94 degrees, set in 1963. Mainly clear skies will be over Central Virginia on Thursday night, with lows in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.
Friday will be a hot day, with highs in the lower 90s under mainly sunny skies. Saturday will start off partly sunny, but those in the ABC 8News viewing area could see a thundershower or two in the afternoon as a weakening cold front heads toward the region. High temperatures on Saturday will top out in the upper 80s.
Sunday, Mother’s Day, will feature partly sunny skies, with highs in the middle 80s. Looking ahead to next week, Monday through Wednesday will start off partly sunny, but there is a chance of late-day thunderstorms each afternoon. Temperatures will remain very warm, with highs in the middle 80s.
