Man Injured After Train Slams into Car

JARRATT, Va. (WRIC) - One man is in the hospital after an Amtrak train slammed into a car Monday afternoon on Ridge Road and Halifax Road.

Greensville Correctional Center employee Duane Anthony Hodges, 50, drove his 2004 Honda Acura around the crossing guard arms, which police say were in the down position and in proper operating order.

The Amtrak Train was traveling northbound at approximately 70 mph and carrying approximately 560 passengers when it struck the Acura.  

Hodges was flown to VCU Medical Center with life threatening injuries. There are currently no reports of injuries from passengers on board the train.  

Charges are pending while police investigate the incident.
