HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -
Hopewell Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two people Tuesday afternoon. A third person suffered minor injuries.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Dinwiddie Street and Oaklawn Boulevard in Hopewell.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 1999 Cadillac SUV vehicle operated by William Reese, of Hopewell, entered the intersection of Oaklawn Boulevard and Dinwiddie Avenue and struck the passenger side of a 2001 Nissan Altima. Both the driver and the passenger of the 2001 Nissan Altima died at the scene.
Witnesses report that Reese, the driver of the SUV, disregarded a red light. Alcohol or drug use does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
The victim driver has been identified as Carol B. Jones, 69, of Disputanta. The passenger, the victim's sister has been identified as Shirley A. Tarvor, 71, of Disputanta.
