Central Virginia Could See Record High Temperatures Friday

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Friday will be another hot day across central Virginia.  Temperatures should hit 93°.

The record for Friday is 94° set in 1963, so we will be close but just end up shy.

The day will start off with mainly sunny skies this morning but a few clouds will develop during the afternoon.  Partly cloudy skies will be over the region tonight and it will be muggy with lows in the upper 60s to near 70.

Saturday will begin with partly sunny skies but by the afternoon an approaching cold front will help to kick off a few thunderstorms.

The main threat from these thunderstorms will be locally heavy rain in a short period of time.  That cold front will weaken as it passes through allowing for a beautiful day for Mother's Day with partly sunny skies and highs in the middle 80s.

The temperatures will heat up again early next week with Monday and Tuesday being in the upper 80s to near 90 under partly sunny skies.  There is a chance of a thunderstorm or two each afternoon.  Another weather system will approach the region on Wednesday and that should give us a good chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon followed by cooler temperatures for Thursday and Friday.
