3 Arrested in Shockoe Bottom After 30-Person Fight Ends in Gunfire

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Richmond Police arrested three people early Monday morning after a fight involving roughly 30 people in Shockoe Bottom ended in gunfire.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on May 12 on the 1500 block of E. Cary St. An argument broke out in a nearby parking lot and several gunshots were fired.

After further investigation, police have charged Melvin L. Jones, 29, of the 3800 block of Flat Field Terrace, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm and resisting arrest. A second man was also arrested for an outstanding warrant.

Officers also seized two firearms. No one was injured.
