The Big Yard Sale is Saturday at the University of Richmond's old basketball gym
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -
The University of Richmond students are gone for the summer, but it turns out many of them left left some really nice stuff behind.
The University and the Falls of the James Group of the Sierra Club, Sierra Club transform the school's old basketball gym into the "Big Yard Sale." The Sierra Club is a non-profit environmental organization.
They have thousands of items-- clothes, shoes, house ware, cleaning agents, lamps, trash cans, microwaves, ovens, electronics, furniture and a lot more.
After graduation when students are moving out, students can donate these things they don't want instead of throwing it out. Organizers say it's a way to recycle the items.
"By donating to this event, we are keeping these things out of the landfill. It benefits the community. The items are priced at very low level," said Tamara smith, the co-chair of the Big Yard Sale.
The event is Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. until noon at the old gym between the stadium and new gym.
Proceeds go to GreenUR, the sustainability club at University of Richmond and the local Sierra Club.
