Dangerous Church Hill Intersection Causing Numerous Accidents

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - A busy Richmond intersection sees two serious crashes over the weekend and neighbors say something may need to be done.

The intersection is along Jefferson Avenue where 22nd, 21st, and Clay Streets intersect.

Late Friday night, the driver of a car drove through the intersection, hit a stop light, then ran into a parked car on the street before stopping in someone's front yard.

"I was woken up by a very loud continuous bang clatter noise," says resident Darrell Coffey.  "It was very evident that something serious had gone on."

Fortunately no one was hurt in the wreck.  Police say the driver is facing reckless driving charges.

Early Sunday morning, just steps away from the first wreck, Coffey's car was hit.

"I've lived here for two years and this definitely the craziest thing that has happened," he says.

Coffey and his neighbors say the intersection can be confusing.

"You can make three left turns at any given point and get on to a different street."

For that reason, some neighbors believe the city may need to do something.

"Definitely more signs on the street," says Daniel Ngembus. "Right now you have no idea who has the right of way according to these signs."
