Police Investigate Shootings Near Richmond Elementary Schools

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Richmond Police are investigating a shooting at the basketball courts near Blackwell Elementary school Tuesday evening.

A 19-year-old adult male was shot in the back and a 17-year-old juvenile was shot in the arm. Both of the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening and the victims have been taken to VCU Medical Center.

Police are working on a suspect profile. No one is in custody at this time.

But while police were working the scene near Blackwell Elementary, two people started shooting at each other near Reid Elementary.

People - especially parents - are concerned because both of these shootings happened just feet away from elementary schools.

"It's terrifying," says neighbor Peaches McNair. "People just do not care about other people, and it's really sad. As a mom, I'm so frightened. And my kids are adults and I'm still scared."

"I mean, I just not surprised," says Quentell Smith. "I mean the crime in Richmond in general , it's ridiculous."
