Reverend Jonathan Falwell announced on March 29 that Donohue, the former student ministries pastor at First Redeemer Church in Cumming, Ga., had been named senior pastor at the ROC.
Donohue succeeded former ROC Pastor Geronimo “Pastor G” Aguilar, who has been indicted on child sex charges in Texas. In April 2013, O’Brien broke the story that while he was leading the ROC, Aguilar was under investigation in California and Texas for sexual misconduct. He has since been indicted on a total of 10 counts pertaining to the sexual assault cases of an 11-year-old girl and her 13-year-old sister in the ‘90s. Aguilar maintains he is innocent of all charges.
Donahue released a statement that says in part:
"Despite ongoing encouragement from the Board of Directors, and without warning, I was terminated. I would have greatly valued a conversation. I love accountability and love to be sharpened. If I was leading the church in an unbiblical manner - I would repent and seek forgiveness. My hope was to repair and rebuild the foundation of the church, while keeping the ministries running."
