HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - The man suspected of killing Meg Menzies, the Hanover County mother who was fatally struck by a car while running, was arraigned Tuesday morning in Hanover General District Court on a contempt of court charge.

Dr. Michael Carlson was originally charged with DWI and  involuntary manslaughter in connection with Menzies' death. Last month, he was charged with contempt of court, according to court documents obtained by 8News. This comes after the Community Corrections of Pretrial Services sent a letter to the judge saying the SCRAM X bracelet that Carlson is wearing to monitor alcohol consumption detected a tampering event in early May.

Documents say Carlson is to be imprisoned, fined or otherwise punished for failure to obey an order of the court, because he failed to comply with requirements of Hanover Community Corrections and Pretrial Services.

According to the letter from the Senior Pretrial Officer addressed to The Honorable Hugh S. Campbell, the officer writes "please be advised that on May 9, 2014, SCRAM X reported that a confirmed tamper event was recorded from 2:52 p.m. on May 7, 2014 until 1:11 a.m. on May 8, 2014." To read the full court document, click here.

8News reached out to Carlson's attorney for comment, but has not heard back.

Carlson has a show cause hearing set for Wednesday, June 18 at 2:30 p.m. At that point, he will be asked to show reason that the court should not take further actions against him. He will also appear in court on Tuesday, July 1 at 9 a.m. on the charges of felony involuntary manslaughter/alcohol and misdemeanor DWI.

Initially, there was concern that there may be a conflict of interest in the case, because Judge Campbell had once represented an individual living in Carlson's household. On Tuesday, it was determined that no conflict of interest exists.
