CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -
An overnight fire in Chesterfield has five people hospitalized, two critically. Fire crews were called to the 4000 block of Hamlin Court in Chesterfield. Crews were called out to the blaze around 2:15 a.m. and when they arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames.
There was a total of six family members in the residence, four adults and two juveniles. They were all transported to VCU Medical Center. Two women are suffering life-threatening conditions, and three have serious injuries. One of the people transported with life threatening injuries has died.
One person had to be rescued from a window of the home, and another actually jumped from the second story. Fire crews have determined the cause of the blaze was smoking material left on the front porch that spread to the rest of the house.
