RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -

On Sunday, one Richmond couple had a bloody good time at their wedding—literally.

Barry Gamble and Monica Behney were married on June 1, but instead of registering for gifts, the newlyweds encouraged guests to donate blood as a group.

“My wife-to-be and I are anti-wedding registry, so instead of asking people to buy us stuff, we’ve decided to ask them to help support organizations in which we believe,” Gamble said prior to the wedding. “She volunteers weekly with young adults, and I give blood as often as I can. We’re telling our friends and family, rather than buy us a toaster, take an hour out of your day and save some lives.”

After the wedding, Gambles’ wedding entourage reconvened at the Virginia Blood Services Donor Center in Richmond, where the staff decorated the center like a wedding chapel and offered cake to those who donated.
