Clues on Twitter Lead to Hidden Cash Around Richmond

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Hundreds of dollars are lying around right now in Richmond and are just waiting for people to find them.

It's all a part of a hidden cash giveaway that a local resident has started as his way of giving back to his community.

A game like this was started several weeks ago in California, and is now spreading across the country. The person giving away the money is posting clues on Twitter.

One clue posted earlier this week to the twitter account @HiddenRVACash read "down the street you can get a physical exam, but there's nothing helping your financial health here."

A little while later another clue reads "School's out for Lucille and visiting Big Daddy's may be next before heading left."

Many hot on the track, one lucky couple found themselves here, by an abandon school bus in a shopping center across from Lucille Brown Middle School.

"When we got to the right location, there were about 30 people looking for it," says Sebastian McGuire. "So we were actually driving away and then she points out this school bus so I hurried up and turned into the parking lot and then I had gotten down and looked under the bus right here, it was taped up under here and I grabbed it from right here."

And just like that an envelope filled with $100.

The twitter page is run by someone who wants to remain anonymous.

In an email they say "For years, I profited greatly from the Payday & Title Loan Industry. We focused on loaning to those that had an immediate need for cash, all the while making payback sound easy and short-term. I simply want to prevent good people from entering into these loans, or assist them in getting out of one."

"I'd say to him that I think it's a great thing that he's doing, and thank you," McGuire says.

The organizer is also asking the winners to pay at least some of the money forward, McGuire says he plans to give a portion of the money to the SPCA.
