CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Chesterfield County Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on Jefferson Davis Highway at Marina Drive that left one person dead on Friday morning.

Police said around 10:50 a.m. on June 6, an older-model Toyota Camry was coming out of Marina Drive and crossing the northbound lanes of Jefferson Davis Highway when it was struck by a utility truck that was traveling north on Jefferson Davis Highway. The driver of the Camry, the vehicle's only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The deceased driver has been identified as 69-year-old Trinh Van Tran, of the 6800 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. The other driver was not injured.

While residents who live nearby were saddened to hear of the fatal crash, they told ABC 8News Reporter Tim Wronka that this kind of crash was bound to happen sooner or later.

Garland Johnson has lived near the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and Marina Drive for a short period of time and has already seen a few problems.

"This is the second accident I've seen, so it's real bad," he said.

Police say the northbound-traveling truck had the right of way in this instance. But witnesses say the intersection, and ones like it nearby, can be tough to cross, since there's no traffic light. The road also slopes on either side, making it difficult to see and creating issues on both sides of the highway.

Chesterfield County Police did not have the number of recent crashes at the intersection available Friday, but the intersection remained closed for hours as they pieced together the crash. Meanwhile, neighbors say they hope to see drivers slow down through the area.

Police continue their investigation into this crash.
