Mother, Boyfriend Charged in Accidental Shooting of Hopewell 3-Year-Old

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) - After investigation into the accidental shooting of a 3-year-old boy in Hopewell Monday, charges have been filed against the mother and the mother's live-in boyfriend. Both subjects have turned themselves in to the authorities.

Reashonda Sharelle Jones, 28, has been charged with two counts of felony Child Neglect, Filing a False Police Report and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Lewis Walter Jones, 29, has been charged with two counts of felony Child Neglect, Obstruction of Justice, and Evidence Tampering. Drug and additional firearms charges are pending on both offenders.

The boy was shot in the buttocks by his twin brother with a small-caliber weapon on the 200 block of South Eighth Avenue, in the Thomas Rolfe Court housing complex. The child was then transferred to the VCU Medical Center and is in stable condition and is steadily improving.

Both suspects are being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail. The child who was shot is still hospitalized, and continues to improve.
