CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Police have released the names of the family members killed in a possible murder-suicide in Chesterfield County  Sunday night.

Chesterfield County Police responded to a home for a welfare check in the 5700 block Fox Maple Terrace, just off Hampton Avenue around 10 p.m. Sunday night.

According to police, officers arriving on scene heard multiple gunshots from inside the home.

Once on scene, officers found several bystanders attempting to help 30-year-old Renotta Jernigan, who was found shot outside the home. Jernigan's 2-year-old son Seth Jernigan, had also been shot. Renotta Jernigan died at the scene; Seth Jernigan was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center and later died from his injuries.

Inside the home, police found Alexis F. Kellas, 9, Renotta Jernigan's daughter, and 35-year-old Barry C. Jernigan. Both had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a release from Chesterfield Police, "the investigation indicates that Barry Jernigan shot his son, step-daughter and wife before turning the gun on himself."

"A couple of neighbors came out and tried to assist and do CPR because we have a nurse in the neighborhood and another one went in and got the baby out," says neighbor Kimberly Morgan.

This is a developing story, and police are continuing their investigation. Stay with 8News on air and online for continual updates.
