March Homicide in Chesterfield Leads to Arrest

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -

A man has been arrested and indicted in connection with a Little Pond Lane homicide in Chesterfield, dating back to March.

Just after 3 a.m. on Monday, March 17, police responded to a home in the 12500 block of Little Pond Lane for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. 

Officers found 27-year-old Farzad Sultani, who lived at the home, inside and wounded from a shot fired by an intruder. Sultani was transported to Johnston-Willis Hospital, then transferred to VCU Medical Center; he later died of his injuries.

On June 16, a grand jury indicted Bret Chermel-Anthony Gilliam, 24, with first-degree murder, attempt first-degree murder, breaking and entering with intent to commit murder, and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the March shooting. He was arrested June 17 without incident.

Gilliam is currently being held without bond at the Chesterfield County Jail pending a hearing in Chesterfield County District Court on Wednesday, June 18.
