Early Sunday morning, Dinwiddie and Chesterfield emergency crews responded to reports of a capsized boat in a private pond in the 23000 block of Barnes Road. Three men had been fishing when the boat capsized; while two were able to swim to shore, the third man drowned.
The two men who survived told officials that they had been fishing when their boat capsized and they all were dumped into the water. the two men said they swam to shore and had seen the third man swimming as well, but lost contact with him while in the water.
Dinwiddie Sheriff's Office and Fire/EMS crews, as well bystanders, searched the pond's shoreline for the man and were not able to locate him. A dive team from Chesterfield County Fire & EMS performed an underwater search for the victim, and located his body at about 12:45 p.m.
The victim's body was taken tot he medical examiner's office to confirm his identity and verify his cause of death. No information on his identity has been released at this time.
