While police insist there's no reason to be afraid of Craigslist, they say common sense goes a long way if you're using it to buy or sell items."When you go to meet a person, there are just some basic, simple safety rules you want to follow," cautions Chesterfield Police Corporal Michael Catron. "Number one: you always want go to a public place, where there will be people. Where there are other people around, where there's plenty of visibility."
Remember, the person you're striking a deal with on Craigslist is a complete stranger; you know nothing about them. So it's also a good idea to take a friend along for the ride."Always let someone know where you're going but if at all possible, take someone with you go to do the transaction or you go to meet the person. There's always strength and safety in numbers," says Corporal Catron.
