RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Nestled in the northwestern part of metro Richmond, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a sprawling 50 acre property that has some of the most picturesque gardens in the region.

"Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden was originally a bicycle club or a wheel club, so it really has a fascinating history," says Beth Monroe, Public Relations Director. "The garden itself was founded 30 years ago. We are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year so it's a wonderful time to come and see this Richmond treasure."

Most recently Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden was voted the second best public garden in North America by readers of USA Today.

"Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is part of the Richmond Garden Trail, a brand new initiative that pulls together eight different gardens throughout the Richmond region," Monroe says, what it is is a ready-made itinerary for people who like to get outside and see gardens and nature."

With school out for the summer, Lewis Ginter is the perfect place to bring the kids. There's tons for them to do like cool off on the splash pad, learn about nature and gardening at the learning center or butterflies.

Going on its fifth year now, "Butterflies Live!" is back at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden through October considered the biggest attraction here at the Garden. Guests can get up close and personal with hundreds of exotic tropical butterflies in this immersive exhibit.

There are acres of trails through different types of gardens and plant displays as well as several choices for onsite dining as well.
